Annual "Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Campaign" underway


Fans are asked to help the hockey family fight cancer as part of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), and the National Hockey League’s (NHL®) annual Hockey Fights Cancer™ initiative, taking place from Oct. 20 – Nov. 17, 2014.

Since its inception in 1998, the joint charitable initiative has been dedicated to raising awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research. Together, the NHLPA and NHL will distribute more than $200,000 in grants to national and local cancer organizations in all 30 NHL markets.

NHL opening night brings in record number of viewers for NBCSN


Wednesday night’s NHL opening night doubleheader on NBCSN was the best on record, according to The Nielsen Company, generating record ratings and viewership, as well as digital consumption.

Wednesday Night Rivalry’s Philadelphia Flyers-Boston Bruins matchup (7:27-10:06 p.m. ET) delivered 956,000 viewers and a 0.57 household rating, making it the most-watched opening night game on cable on record (data available since 1993) and the highest-rated NHL regular-season game ever on NBCSN. The game also set live streaming records for uniques and minutes consumed.

NHL to modify faceoff circle hash marks


The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that the modification to Rule 1.9 - Face-off Spots and Circles will be implemented for the commencement of the 2014-15 Season.
